Ratz tournament #1, which ended up being the second stop of the year due to a previous weather cancelation. The morning was chilly at the Marshall Hall ramp as 5 boats and 8 anglers prepared to do battle on the Potomac River! Starting out the day with clear skies, temps 53 deg rising to about 80 deg by weigh-in, while water temps were in the low 70s. Fighting through the shorts to get keeper bass was a daunting task before the bite shut down by mid-morning. Paul Badders brought the only limit to the scale taking the win with a 12.81-lb sack. Mike Powers came in with 4 quality bass to trail the leader by a half-pound while winning the lunker money, followed by Ron Stierstorfer settling for a 3rd place finish.
Ratz Tournament #2, which ended up being the season opener, was a wet and dreary one as 7 boats launched out of Mariner Pt to fish the Gunpowder River. It was in the 60s with the winds 5-10 mph out of the ESE, and it rained ALL day!!! It was a tough one with only 2 limits showing up to the scales. The high-water levels and drop in temps to the mid-60s did not help the bite. Paul Badders takes the win with a 15.92-lb stringer, followed by Ron Stierstorfer with the only other limit. Larry Kunkel settles for third place. Lunker bucks goes to Ken Berry, tipping the scale at 4.45-lbs!
